What Happens to My Plasma
| After your donation, the bottle of plasma is taken to the Processing Area. Samples are collected and everything is tracked by a sophisticated computer system using bar codes.
| The plasma bottle is quarantined in the freezer while lab test are being conducted.
| Laboratory testing is conducted at a centralized state-of-the-art testing facility located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Serology and NAT(Nucleic Acid Testing) are conducted on every plasma unit.
| Once all laboratory testing is complete and test results reported, plasma units are carefully inspected, packaged, and shipped. Our highly efficient Plasma Logistic Center(PLC) has over 20,000 square feet of freezer space located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The PLC will hold the plasma bottles until ready for fractionation.
| Depending upon the finished product to be manufactured, the plasma will be sent to Kankakee, Illinois, Marburg, Germany, or Bern, Switzerland. The plasma will be manufactured into products that save and improve lives. Plasma derived products treat bleeding and breathing disorders, burns, shock, and trauma. The whole process takes approximately 220 days from the date of your donation.
